Vision and Mission
Department of Pharmacology
Pharmacology is the science that deals with all aspects of the action of drugs and other chemicals on living systems. Its primary aim is the discovery of chemical mechanisms by which cellular and molecular functions are regulated for the purpose of understanding how existing drugs act and to develop new drugs for treatment and diagnosis of human diseases. The discipline of pharmacology explores biology through the actions of drugs and chemical substances. Drugs and chemicals produce their effects by binding to regulatory molecules, thereby, modifying the functions of underlying biological systems; their actions are useful in regulating not only normal functions of cells and organisms but also the abnormal processes which occur in disease.
The Department of Pharmacology was established about fifty years ago at the time of establishment of the faculty of Pharmacy. The Academic staff within the Department is highly involved in teaching both theoretical and practical courses in various disciplines of pharmacology for undergraduate students at the faculty of Pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, nursery and health sciences. Furthermore, the staff members are highly involved in various forms of Pharmacological and Toxicological reach studies that covers various aspects of pharmacology and Toxicology and managed to publish hundreds of research papers in reputable journals and periodicals in the fields of Pharmacology and toxicology
A leading department in research, teaching and training of pharmacy students in the fields of pharmacology and toxicology.
The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology is committed to academic excellence and to the attainment of national, regional, and international recognition for the quality of its educational, research, and service activities
The educational mission of the department is related to teaching in the pharmacy, medicine, nursing and health sciences undergraduate curricula. Teaching excellence is a priority of the department and the staff put much effort into their lectures and practical courses teaching. Additionally, the department awards the following degrees:
M.Pharm. in Pharmacology.
PhD. In Pharmacology.
Both of which are research-based degrees.
The department also participates in the Master in Clinical Pharmacy program awarded by the faculty of pharmacy.
The research mission of the department is to contribute to the advance in biomedical knowledge through high quality research and other scholarly activities in the field of pharmacology and toxicology
